Intellectual Property

We are pioneers in the application of economic principles to intellectual property disputes. We have conducted economic analyses of patent infringement, trade secrets, non-compete provisions, copyright violation and trademark dilution, as well as intellectual property valuation in licensing and transfer pricing matters.

The valuation and economic analysis of intellectual property also can be relevant in other types of cases.  We have had significant involvement in antitrust and merger cases such as Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Oracle, Proctor and Gamble, and the Department of Justice. In these cases, there was an intersection of market definition, technology and intangible asset valuation. We have also worked for companies in engagements in which the analysis of intellectual property was relevant to issues related to transfer pricing and tax valuation.

Our professional staff includes academic experts from the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, as well as professional valuation experts with backgrounds in finance, economics, and accounting.

We have performed economic analyses of intellectual property in a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, transportation, automobile manufacturing, heavy industries, entertainment (music and film), publishing, internet processes, software and hardware, medical devices, packaged goods and electronic gaming.
